New Parents and First Time Campers,
Be mindful that you are going to be out there for 2 days.
I put a X , by what I thought were the most important items to have.
If you are going out to purchase items keep this in mind:
Purchasing a Tent: The label says 1-2-3-4 person tent; this means bodies only. Your clothes will not fit. Consider adding 2 to your total count to accommodate your gear. Any questions call Cynthia at 678-725-4158.
You may consider purchasing a tarp to put over the top of your tent to help trap in warmth. Some sites also suggest a footprint for your tent, also.
Sleeping bags: are you a hot or cold sleeper? Hot you come out of the covers at home. Cold all the cover is piled on top of you. The temp rating on the sleeping bags are based on you not having clothing on. A bag rated 20*F will do the job for a cold sleeper.
Thermals make good sleepwear; Cotton will make you sweat and leave you cold and wet-so not sweats. (Wal-Mart makes a fleece liner for inside a sleeping bag. They are about $10 and they are wonderful.) also wearing a hat at night helps tons!
Lantern: We suggest that if you purchase one propane lanterns are the brightest. (get extra propane and a extra package of clothe wicks)--These do not ever go inside your tent!
Chairs: You need to bring folding camp chairs for each family member. Please put your name on them in bold sharpie!
Have the boys do their part by collecting the lint in the dryer and putting it in a plastic bag. Bring it with them. This is a great fire starter.
LEAVE AT HOME:
*Radio, iPod
*Electronics of any kind, game boys, DS, etc.
*hunting knives
*firearms
*axes/saws
*tobacco
*alcohol
*pocket knives (unless scout has earned whittling chip)
