Camping and Outings during the school year

Troop 15’s outdoor program includes a camping trip or outing for every month of the school year.  Trips vary from year to year.  In the past years the monthly trips have included canoe trips, bicycle trips, a trip to Washington, D.C., Battleship New Jersey, “Beach Jam” in Wildwood on the Jersey shore, the 911 memorial in New York City, deep sea fishing, overnights at Scout camps, a backpacking hike and many other kinds of outings.   A calendar of the year’s trips and events is given out in September.  Permission slips providing details for each trip are handed out at Troop meetings several weeks before each trip and have set deadlines for the return of the permission slip.  Permissions slips are also available on the Troop Website.  The deadline for returning the permission slip is to allow the patrol leaders and the adult leaders adequate time to plan meals, rides and other trip details.  It is important to encourage your son to attend as many camping trips as possible.  If your son has a conflict for part of the time during the weekend of a trip, you should talk to the adult leaders to see if it is possible to bring your son to the camping trip late, or pick him up early so he only misses part of the trip instead of the entire weekend program.

Summer Camp with Troop 15

Troop 15 attends summer camp every summer at Ockanickon Scout Reservation near Doylestown, Pennsylvania.  In the past the troop has gone to summer camp the first full week after school ends.  In addition, there is usually a group of scouts who attend summer camp during the second week of August.   The camp has a special rate of only $200 for any scout who attends camp earlier in the summer at the regular rate (under $400 per week – a real bargain) and then returns during the week in August.  We anticipate that several of our scouts will take advantage of this great bargain and attend both weeks of camp!  We encourage every scout to attend summer camp.  This is probably the most valuable and rewarding experience they can have during the scouting year--the opportunity to enjoy scouting and the outdoors for 24 hours a day for six days.   Aside from the opportunities for advancement, learning and leadership, summer camp is about having fun, enjoying the outdoors and the fellowship with other boys.  Troop 15 provides adult leadership for summer camp contingents and the camp has a large staff.
